As we head into the balmy months of summer, the thought of dressed up and done up are anything but appealing. We're in the planning stages for our own gal pal's sun-filled destination wedding, and when you're heading to Cancun with more than just a bikini in your suitcase, "the lighter, the better," become words to live by.

We've already covered off on wedding-friendly frocks that are dressed up without needless tucking, taping, shimmying and restraining, so we're following suit with the coif.

We are the first to admit that we love a good up-do as much as the next girl but the thought of subjecting our own manes to 10lbs of hairpins and enough hairspray to shellac a car seem less than ideal in tropical climates. Instead, we're opting for the classic chignon. Simple to do, easy to maintain and the look is effortlessly chic. Here are some of our favourite variations of the timeless French knot with easy how-to tutorials to boot for the perfect bridesmaid up-do.
